Each day, both requests for books and thank-you letters arrive at Book Aid from librarians, teachers and Peace Corps volunteers around the world.  This is a tiny sample of comments made in those letters:

“The books that Darien Book Aid donated have been a great success. I have a shelf unit dedicated to them, and the neighborhood kids come over nearly every day to read them. It encourages them to well in school because they can see what they have been able to accomplish”…. Philippines  

“Please receive my greatest appreciation to Darien Book Aid. They are very useful books and are already being utilized by many of our secondary school students. If you happen to have more books, please do put us in consideration because we aim at building a bigger resource centre to help a wider community”… Uganda  

“I do not know how I can express my appreciation of the gift we have received from you. The books are very, very nice and interesting for our library as we require that our students read a book minimum per month”…, Armenia  

“I am a principal at a school in Belize . Our school library was damaged and we lost our books. Can you please send us some books?” ... Belize

 “The children are very excited about the books. Our school is grades K – 11. The older students desperately need consultation books in Spanish for their investigations for their homework in all subjects as our school library is very poorly stocked.”… Colombia

 “Last year you were kind enough to send us a shipment of books here and they have been a wonderful asset to our students. We would be very pleased if you could send us a few more to help fill out our sparse little English library”… China

 “Thank you so much for your generosity. I know that the school community in Plana will appreciate and benefit greatly from your donations” … Czech Republic

“In our country, especially in rural parties, the main problem is lack of library books in most rural schools and community libraries. At present the organization is in need of your school library books from primary to secondary as well as reference books for community libraries”… Ethiopia

 “Our school is a large school with a population of about 670 students. The interest of our students in reading is dying as a result of a lack of reading books in the school. I hope you will assist us to boost their reading skills”… Ghana

“I am a volunteer teacher from the US . I teach geography and biology. We could really use books for the library and classroom, as we are in a remote area and our resources are quite limited. The students range in age from 12 – 20 and have varied reading levels. Some struggle with basic literacy”…, Guyana

“We are in desperate need of high school books in all subject areas for our library. My husband and I developed a small library using our own money and some donations. If you could assist us in any way by sending books, we would be so appreciative”… India

“The government of Kenya introduced free primary school education in Kenya . Schools are overwhelmed by the number of students. There are insufficient reading materials. If you can help, we would appreciate it”… Kenya
